Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was convicted of plotting a military coup in last fall and handed more than a 27-year term in jail, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after recent developments emerged.

This involved seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a summons to a public vigil that could facilitate a potential flight.

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, Justice Moraes said data from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his flight.

Bolsonaro was convicted of heading a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, President Lula.
